From 1er 3 March 2022, IHEDN, as part of its activities within the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), welcomed 21 European auditors for a course on the challenges of space for CSDP and the European Union.
The course was a great success, with active participation from both participants and speakers, who were very committed to the subject. The aim of the course was to raise awareness of the importance of space activities in the context of CSDP and the future of the EU, and to initiate constructive exchanges between representatives of different Member States. It also gave participants a clearer picture of European and international space policies.
The first day of the course provided a general overview of the European Union's space strategy, in terms of initiatives, programmes, players and challenges for space security. The second day focused on partnership and cooperation in this field. It focused on national space policies in Europe and their specific features, as well as on the international dimension of cooperation on space security. The final day looked at issues of space diplomacy and economics, innovation and research, as well as space surveillance, traffic management, critical infrastructure protection and the European space industry.
The course was successfully held in Paris between 1 and 3 March 2022 with active participation and excellent outcomes. The aim of the course was to raise awareness of the importance of space activities in the CSDP framework. It enabled participants to form a broad overview of international space policies.
The first day of the course focused on a general overview of the European Union's space strategy, in terms of initiatives and actors, challenges to space security and the presentation of different space programs.
The second day of the course dealt with partnership and cooperation. It placed specific emphasis on national space policies in Europe and their specific characteristics and on the international dimension of cooperation in space security.
The last day reviewed space diplomacy and economics, space innovation and research, space surveillance, traffic management, the protection of critical infrastructure as well as the European space industry.
