At the helm of the 'Maritime Issues and Strategies' major at the national session, the Lieutenant General Benoit Durieux made a stopover in Athens, where he was welcomed by H.E. Patrick Maisonnave - French ambassador to Greece at the Institut Français de Grèce.
This maritime country par excellence was a perfectly suited destination for a major that is no less so. On the first day of the particularly rich mission, the auditors were immediately plunged into the heart of the country's maritime issues, with an initial overview provided by the French ambassador and his principal deputies.
This was followed by a visit to Parliament and discussions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Mr Miltiadis VarvitsiotisMinister Delegate for European Affairs.
The audience then had the opportunity to debate energy and development in the context of the war in Ukraine with Ms Marika Kakayiannia member of the think-tank ELIAMEP and an expert on energy issues.
Finally, to round off the day, Professor Anestis Gourgiotisof the University of Thessaly and Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Council of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy, and Professor Haris Kokkossis from the University of Thessaly spoke to the audience about the major issues involved in the development and planning of Greece's maritime territory, as well as the management of land/sea interaction.
