Defence and security education referents seminar

On 20 June, the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) organised a seminar for education, defence and security referents (REDS) at the Ecole militaire, in partnership with the Direction du service national et de la jeunesse (DSNJ) and the Direction générale de l'enseignement supérieur et de l'insertion professionnelle (DGESIP).

Participants were welcomed by Lieutenant General Benoît DurieuxDirector of IHEDN. He outlined IHEDN's missions and field of analysis, and emphasised the importance of REDS and the networks on which they can rely, in spreading the culture of defence and security.

The morning was then devoted to two conferences updating the knowledge of the referents on geopolitical and cyber-security issues, followed by a round table led by the DSNJ, focusing on measures to raise awareness of defence and security issues among students and young people.

The afternoon round table, chaired by the Delegate for Defence Education (DGESIP), gave the referrers the opportunity to discuss and compare the various practices implemented within their organisations to strengthen the link between defence and young people.

Lieutenant General Daniel MenaouineAt the end of the seminar, the Director of the DSNJ emphasised the need to respond to the growing need for commitment on the part of young people, and to consider new methods for participating in the development of a spirit of defence.

The Inspector General for Education, Sport and Research Marie-Caroline Beer Finally, he gave an overview of the activities carried out in higher education and emphasised the importance of the REDS network in disseminating defence education.
