125e cycle for young people New Caledonia

Le 125e he IHEDN New Caledonia Youth Cycle was opened on 5 December in Nouméa by Lieutenant General Benoît Durieux, Director of the Institute.

The course, organised in partnership with the Ministry of Overseas Territories, the High Commission and the FANC High Command, brings together around thirty students under the age of 30 who are residents of New Caledonia. They are equally divided between those born in New Caledonia and those born in mainland France.

The Youth Cycle programme is based on IHEDN's own educational triptych: lectures, committee work and visits. It focuses on military security, national defence, national security and international security, and highlights strategic, economic and military issues in the Indo-Pacific.

General Benoît DurieuxDirector of the Institut, expressed his strong commitment to training young people, at a time when the 3e week of the session in the New Caledonia region.

Prior to the end-of-cycle day held at the Pacific Community (SPC) on 09 December, attended by the 48 auditors of the 220e session in the New Caledonia region, the 27 young auditors from the 125e On 07 December, a cycle of young people from the IHEDN were welcomed at the Régiment d'Infanterie de Marine du Pacifique, Nouvelle-Calédonie (RIMaP-NC) in Plum.

The young auditors discovered the air-land resources of the French Army in the region. The RIMaP-NC is a concentration of military force projection and population support capabilities, particularly capable of parachuting humanitarian aid to affected regions during the cyclone season.

The Doniambo nickel plant (SLN-Eramet) then welcomed them for a presentation on the economic and social issues involved in the responsible exploitation of New Caledonian mining resources. The presentation and tour of the production facilities gave the audience an idea of the site's industrial excellence.
