The UK, Japan and Italy have signed an agreement to develop a future fighter aircraft. While one of the stated benefits of this programme appears to be economic, the members of this partnership are also demonstrating their desire to contribute to security in the Indo-Pacific region by acquiring a 6th generation fighter aircraft with cutting-edge stealth and interoperability technologies.
