A great-granddaughter of Marshal de Mac-Mahon, the third President of the French Republic, Élisabeth de Miribel (1915-2005) had commitment in her blood. Aged 24 at the start of the Second World War, she offered her services to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which posted her to London. The rest of her career up to 1945 was closely linked to history, from the 18 June Appeal to the Leclerc Division, via the Italian campaign and her work as a war correspondent.
