Fifty-one new auditors were invited to the Palais préfectoral des Alpes-Maritimes on Tuesday 17 September 2024 to attend the opening of the 239th session in the PACA region organised by the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN).

They were welcomed by the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Hugues Moutouh, and immersed with him in the challenges facing the region. They then got a glimpse of what was in store for them over the next four weeks, with speeches by sub-prefect Jean-Michel Delvert, director of the IHEDN's regional and specialised activities department, representing Lieutenant General Hervé de Courrèges, director of the IHEDN, and Brigadier General Guillaume Venard, representing Lieutenant General Thierry Laval, OGZDS Sud.

The following day, the auditors began their immersion in the programme with visits to Nice's urban supervision centre (CSU) and then to Nice Côte d'Azur airport. Before their visit to Thalès Underwater Systems on Friday, they were also able to take advantage of high-level conferences on the challenges and concepts of national defence, in a world marked by the reshaping of strategic paradigms.

After a week packed with learning, the 239th session in the PACA region will meet up again on Tuesday 24 September in Orange to explore the workings of the armed forces and the defence system, alongside the IHEDN teams.
