IHEDN - DEBAT STRATEGIQUE - Sylvie BERMAN

In his book Madam Ambassador, From Beijing to Moscow, the life of a diplomat (published in October 2022), Sylvie Bermann looks back on her career and describes the behind-the-scenes workings of the Quai d'Orsay, as well as the geopolitical changes she has witnessed around the world. From Maoist China to Xi Jinping's China, from the end of the USSR to Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine, from UN multilateralism to the deadlock in the UN Security Council, Sylvie Bermann retraces forty years of diplomatic history.

Sylvie Bermann was France's first female ambassador to three member countries of the United Nations Security Council (China, the United Kingdom and Russia), and was posted to the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations in New York. She was also ambassador to the European Union's Political and Security Committee in Brussels and then director of the United Nations and international organisations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She is currently Chairman of the Board of the Institut des Hautes Études de Défense Nationale (IHEDN).
