Who are we?
Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defence
The Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) is a national public administrative body under the supervision of the Prime Minister and, more specifically, of the Secrétariat général à la défense et à la sécurité nationale (SGDSN).
The Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) prepares leaders from all spheres of activity to assume the highest responsibilities by developing their understanding of national defence and security issues, their knowledge of related public policies, their perception of the interplay of players involved in their implementation, and their aptitude for strategic thinking. The training provided as part of the national session is designed to enable all students to grasp from the outset the cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary, interministerial, European and international dimensions of defence and security issues through a common foundation and in-depth study of 5 major areas (Armament and the Defence Economy, Economic Defence and Security, Maritime Issues and Strategies, Defence Policy, Digital Sovereignty and Cybersecurity).
The IHEDN, working to build and disseminate a common defence culture, helps to forge lasting links between senior public and private, civilian and military officials.
Job description
Main activities:
- taking part in the design of the session, in liaison with the operational manager;
- participation in the auditor recruitment process: gathering and monitoring applications ;
- under the supervision of the Operations Manager and after consultation with the Education Manager, checks the integrity of the application files;
- proposals for conference themes and speakers in accordance with the programme drawn up by the course leader;
- production of bibliographies, summary sheets, teaching notebooks, etc. ;
- proofreading, layout, production and distribution of preparation packs.
Organisation of session management activities :
- helping to organise the session's activities (seminars, missions, participation in the Institute's activities, etc.), with the support of the logistics departments;
- Updating programmes in real time to take account of unforeseen circumstances, in conjunction with the driving supervisor and the training consultant;
- Preparation of conference rooms with the appropriate IT equipment (microphone, projection, videoconferencing, etc.);
- organising the reception of authorities in conjunction with the cabinet,
- Production and management of administrative documents required for session activities: biodatas, attendance sheets, etc;
- speaker management ;
- organisation of transport (planes, trains, buses, etc.) ;
- preparation of welcome packs and bags handed out during the training course.
Session communication officer :
- participation in the development of tools to promote training courses, in particular the call for applications document;
- preparation of gifts ;
- regular communication on the session's activities, in particular the drafting of short reports at the end of each session activity;
- writing letters of thanks to the authorities after each trip abroad;
- taking part in promotional activities for the session, including running stands at trade fairs;
- as required, the project manager also contributes to the activities of the department's other training courses.
Participation in the session and auditor evaluation process:
- preparation and use of questionnaires ;
- under the supervision of the operational manager, monitors candidates for skills certification;
- drafting end-of-session reports.
Profile required
Level 7 Masters/equivalent qualifications
Specialisation Economics, Humanities & Law- Sciences (including demography, anthropology, law, political science)

- Very good knowledge of the national defence and security apparatus, the public sector and the organisation of the State, the scientific and institutional environment related to the fields covered by the courses (universities, research centres, think-tanks, etc.).
- Mastery of documentary research tools and monitoring software.
