An ally of the United States, yes, but also an ally that values its independence, France has had a special history with NATO. Two moments in this history have been particularly memorable: France's break with the Gaullis in 1966 and its reintegration into NATO's integrated council in 2009. This book seeks to shed light on France's special relationship with NATO by giving the floor to a range of figures, from the military to diplomats, historians and lawyers.
