This doctrine condemned any intervention by Europe in the affairs of \"the Americas\", just as it condemned any intervention by the United States in European affairs. These assumptions have evolved over time. Over 200 years, it has been invoked by Republicans and Democrats alike. Today, it is enjoying a revival in the face of China's determination in South America.
