This fact sheet looks at the evolution of Hayat Tahrir al-Cham (HTC) - the Levant Liberation Organisation in French - between the start of the Syrian civil war and its seizure of power in Damascus in December 2024. It presents the origins of this entity and its gradual moderation, analyses some of the probable reasons for this evolution, and then concludes by questioning the future direction of the movement at the head of the post-Assad transition in Syria.
