A reduced session of the bilateral strategic dialogue seminar between the IHEDN and the German Bundesakademie fur Sicherheitspolitik (BAKS) took place on Friday 25 in a virtual format using WebEx videoconferencing software.

Given the current health restrictions, the fourth Franco-German Strategic Dialogue has been postponed until the first half of 2021, for a high-level face-to-face event.

This virtual session addressed a number of issues that will form the core of discussions at the forthcoming dialogue.

The videoconference, chaired by Lieutenant General Patrick Destremau, Director of the IHEDN, gave rise to open and constructive discussions on the subject of European defence and the international community's commitment to the Sahel, and Franco-German cooperation on these issues. The points of convergence and disagreement between the two countries were highlighted, with the aim of improving our understanding on these issues.
