SIAL - POLDEF
Since 2007, IHEDN has been organising a session for Latin American countries (SIAL), a geographical area in which France is present through its three overseas departments. This session takes place every two years.
Objectives
- Discover France's approach to defence, security and international relations in the region
- To enable discussions on future prospects linked to the year's issues
- Sharing French operational know-how with a view to developing future defence and security cooperation agreements
- Encouraging the emergence and consolidation of a privileged cooperation network as part of active diplomacy in the region
Target groups
Senior civil and military officials, representatives of civil society and local organisations: politicians, diplomats, military personnel, entrepreneurs, directors of research institutes, etc.

- Conferences and round tables
- Visits to military or civil-military sites (civil security, etc.)
- Work in restricted committees (drafting a report and a position paper), following the main theme of the year (defence, diplomacy, economy, society, etc.).

The aim of the committee work is to brainstorm and draw up a report and position paper for high-level government decision-makers.
On completion of their training, auditors are admitted to the Auditors' Association and have access rights to a sharing platform (reports, etc.).
