What is the state of the leadership What is the role of bilateral Franco-German cooperation in European defence and military cooperation within the EU? Delphine Deschaux-Dutard answers this key question in her book "French-German Military Cooperation and European Defence - From Driving Engine to Divergence of Interests? Based on two decades of in-depth field research in Paris, Berlin and Brussels, and enriched by data collected since 2022, the researcher analyses the difficulties faced by these two states in the context of the return of conventional warfare to the European continent. The focus on the strategic discourses of French and German actors, and on the institutional frameworks in which they develop, enables the reader to better grasp the complexity of military cooperation and the recurring limits of the leadership between Paris and Berlin.
