Who are we?

Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defence

The Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) is a national public administrative body under the supervision of the Prime Minister and, more specifically, of the Secrétariat général à la défense et à la sécurité nationale (SGDSN).

The Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) prepares leaders from all spheres of activity to assume the highest responsibilities by developing their understanding of national defence and security issues, their knowledge of related public policies, their perception of the interplay of players involved in their implementation, and their aptitude for strategic thinking. The training provided as part of the national session is designed to enable all students to grasp from the outset the cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary, interministerial, European and international dimensions of defence and security issues through a common foundation and in-depth study of 5 major areas (Armament and the Defence Economy, Economic Defence and Security, Maritime Issues and Strategies, Defence Policy, Digital Sovereignty and Cybersecurity).

The IHEDN, working to build and disseminate a common defence culture, helps to forge lasting links between senior public and private, civilian and military officials.

Job description

Main activities:

  • Involvement in the design of the session, in consultation with the operations manager; ;
  • Involvement in the recruitment process for auditors: collecting and following up on applications, communicating with candidates; ;
  • Under the supervision of the operations manager and following consultation with the head of teaching, checks that application files are complete; ;
  • Proposals for conference topics and speakers in accordance with the programme; ;
  • Compiling and updating bibliographies, drafting the auditor’s handbook…; ;
  • Production, proofreading, layout and distribution of the preparatory documents to the relevant recipients.

 

Organisation of session management activities :

  • Preparing and managing the administrative documents required to run the session’s activities: biodata forms, attendance sheets, etc.; ;
  • Designing topics for committee assignments, in consultation with the operations manager and the academic manager; ;
  • Organising and managing the session’s activities (missions, participation in the institute’s activities, etc.), with the support of the logistics department; ;
  • Updating programmes in real time in response to unforeseen circumstances, in consultation with the operations manager; ;
  • Preparing conference rooms with the appropriate IT equipment (microphones, projectors, videoconferencing, etc.); ;
  • Organising the reception of visitors and, where applicable, officials in connection with the firm; ;
  • Organising transport (aircraft, trains, buses, etc.) in coordination with the brand team of the General Officer for the Defence and Security Zone; ;
  • Preparation of welcome packs and/or bags to be handed out during the training course.

 

Session communication officer :

  • Regular reporting on the session’s activities, in particular the drafting of news briefs following each activity during the session, in collaboration with the Department of Institutional Relations and Communications; ;
  • Drafting letters of thanks to the authorities after each trip away; ;
  • Taking part in promotional activities for the courses, including manning stands at trade fairs; ;
  • Depending on requirements, the project manager also contributes to the activities of other teams within the department.

 

Participation in the session and auditor evaluation process:

  • Drafting of satisfaction questionnaires to be sent to auditors; ;
  • Monitoring candidates for skills certification; ;
  • Entering marks onto the mark sheet once the papers have been marked; ;
  • Issuing of transcripts and certificates to candidates who have obtained France Compétences certification; ;
  • Preparing Qualiopi files in preparation for surveillance and renewal audits, in collaboration with the quality officer.

  • Very good knowledge of the national defence and security apparatus, the public sector and the organisation of the State, the scientific and institutional environment related to the fields covered by the courses (universities, research centres, think-tanks, etc.).
  • Proficiency in using search tools
  • International news round-up.

Profile required

A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Economics, the Humanities or Law and the Sciences (including demography, anthropology, Law and political science)
