Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defence
The Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) is a national public administrative body under the supervision of the Prime Minister and, more specifically, of the Secrétariat général à la défense et à la sécurité nationale (SGDSN).
The Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) prepares leaders from all spheres of activity to assume the highest responsibilities by developing their understanding of national defence and security issues, their knowledge of related public policies, their perception of the interplay of players involved in their implementation, and their aptitude for strategic thinking. The training provided as part of the national session is designed to enable all students to grasp from the outset the cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary, interministerial, European and international dimensions of defence and security issues through a common foundation and in-depth study of 5 major areas (Armament and the Defence Economy, Economic Defence and Security, Maritime Issues and Strategies, Defence Policy, Digital Sovereignty and Cybersecurity).
The IHEDN, working to build and disseminate a common defence culture, helps to forge lasting links between senior public and private, civilian and military officials.
Job description
The National Session Department (DSN) is responsible for designing and running the IHEDN National Session.
The National Programme is structured around a core curriculum and five major subjects.
Each major consists of:
- from the head of the major;
- an operations manager;
- an educational support officer;
- one or more project managers.
It receives cross-functional support from the Department for Europe and International Affairs (DEAI) for the planning and execution of missions abroad, and from the General Secretariat for logistics, finance, legal affairs, human resources and IT support.
Main activities
Reporting to the POLDEF project manager, and within a climate of mutual trust and respect, the role involves playing an active part in organising and managing activities carried out for the benefit of the audit team:
- preparing for the back-to-school seminar, putting together induction packs ;
- helping to process and monitor the administrative documents needed to carry out the session's activities: biodatas, trombinoscope, mission orders, passport management for missions abroad, etc;
- monitoring auditor attendance (attendance sheets) and preparing certificates of "services rendered" for employers;
- helping to book and prepare conference rooms;
- Participation in the preparation of appropriate IT resources (microphones, projection, videoconferencing, etc.) in conjunction with the project manager;
- helping to organise the logistics of travel in France and abroad (booking planes, trains, buses, etc.) and accompanying delegations;
- helping to welcome external authorities and stakeholders.

Profile required
A student currently studying for a Master’s 1 or Master’s 2 degree in the fields of defence, geopolitics, security, logistics, crisis management (…) who has good interpersonal skills and a smart, well-groomed appearance.
