Transatlantic Relations after the U.S. Election: French & Polish Perceptions

The Europe and International Affairs Department of the IHEDN was involved in organising the webinar on the theme of "Transatlantic Relations after the U.S. Election: French & Polish Perceptions". held on 3 November, from 4.45pm to 6.15pm. The event was organised by the Centre for French Civilisation and Francophone Studies at Warsaw University, in conjunction with the French Embassy in Poland. Speakers included Mr Roman KUZNIARDirector of the Chair of Strategy and International Security at the University of Warsaw, and Mr Manuel LAFONT-RAPNOUILDirector of the Centre for Analysis, Forecasting and Strategy at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The debate, moderated by Prof. Olivier SCHMITTIn the run-up to the American presidential election, the 2 speakers discussed the potential evolution of transatlantic relations in the light of a number of factors.

An exchange with the audience, which included diplomats from EU member states based in Paris, students from Warsaw University and French and Polish representatives from think tanks, then addressed a number of themes, including European defence, the Three Seas Initiative, the Weimar Triangle, the future development of relations with Russia and the place and influence of the Franco-German tandem on the European and international stage.
