India's place as an Indo-Pacific power is not obvious, yet the country's situation integrates it into this area. The objective set by the world's largest democracy of guaranteeing a "free, open, inclusive, peaceful and prosperous" Indo-Pacific requires development efforts that go beyond the purely economic dimension, towards a shared awareness at all levels. This article highlights the extent to which a strategic vision must better reconcile local requirements with national ambitions.
