Monday 13 September saw the start of the 5th International Session on Armaments and Defence Economics for Latin America (SIAMLAT) at the Ecole Militaire in Paris.
The event brings together twelve senior military and institutional officials from ten countries in the region. Ingénieur Général de l'Armement Thomas Lorne, Deputy Director of International Development at the Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), and Ambassador Sylvain Berger, Director of the DAEI, welcomed the audience.
Lieutenant General Benoît Durieux, the new Director of the Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale (IHEDN), gave the opening address.
The day continued with three conferences devoted to relations between France and Latin American countries and to innovation in defence. On 14 and 15 September, students will travel to the PACA region to visit the Toulon Naval Base and several of the region's military industrial sites.

Thomas Lorne, Deputy Director of the International Department of the Directorate General for Armament, and Ambassador Sylvain Berger, Director of European and International Affairs, welcomed the attendees. Lieutenant-General Benoît Durieux, new director of the Institute for Higher National Defence Studies (IHEDN), pronounced the opening speech of this session. On Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15thAt the same time, the attendees travel to the South-East of France to visit the Naval Base of Toulon and several military industrial sites.
