Organised by the IHEDN's Department of Europe and International Affairs as part of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), the " The challenges of space for the European union & CSDP "began today at the École Militaire - Paris. This module will bring together around 35 participants from the institutions, organisations and agencies of the European Union and its Member States, and will be structured around a dozen lectures and round tables.
This course will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges of the space sector for the EU and its Member States, and to reflect together on the means to ensure our strategic autonomy in this area, in particular the need to forge a common vision of these challenges and to provide effective responses in the military and industrial fields, based on partnerships.
The course was opened on Tuesday 14 February by Mr Patrick Chatard MoulinDeputy Special Envoy for Space at the European External Action Service. He stressed the importance of continuing to develop common responses at EU level in the space sector. The course will conclude with a speech by Xavier PascoDirector of the Foundation for Strategic Research (FRS).

Military school - Paris, February 14 -16th 2023
Hosted by the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), the course entitled " The challenges of space for the European union & CSDP "organised by the Department of Europe and International Affairs of the IHEDN has started today in Paris. The seminar gathers around 35 attendees from EU institutions, bodies and agencies and from the EU member states, and is composed of ten conferences and panels.
The course represents the opportunity for the attendees to touch upon the many challenges of space security, and explore the capabilities for the EU and its member states to ensure strategic autonomy in that field, especially by forging a common understanding of these challenges, and develop common responses in terms of military, industry, innovation and research.
The seminar was opened by M. Patrick Chatard Moulin, Deputy Special Envoy for Space at the European External Action Service. The Key Note speaker underlined the importance and cooperation at EU level in the development of a common vision and strategy. The seminar will end with a concluding speech given by Xavier Pasco, Director of the Strategic Research Foundation (FRS).
