Mission Brussels for DSE and AED majors

The Economic Defence and Security (EDS) and Armaments and Defence Security (ADS) majors in the first National Session travelled to Brussels, Belgium, as part of their European module.

This trip, which took place against an extraordinary backdrop of crises for the European continent and its allies, gave listeners an opportunity to reflect on these strategic issues. Meeting and discussions with the ambassador Muriel DOMENACHFrance's Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Council in Brussels, introduced the audience to the context in which France was acting within the Atlantic Alliance. The presence of NATO's Deputy Secretary General, Mr Mircea GEOANAThis was an opportunity to continue the rich and intense discussions on the institution's strategic future.

In addition, listeners to the two majors were able to follow three speeches by high-level officials at NATO headquarters: one with GBR Frédéric PesmeDeputy Director of NATO's Policy and Capabilities Division, with Camille GRANDNATO's Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investment, and a contribution fromAlexandre ESCORCIADeputy Permanent Representative of France to the North Atlantic Council (NATO).

 

The day before, the IHEDN delegation visited the European institutions in Brussels to discuss political and military relations and the workings of the European Parliament.

The audience was able to take advantage of the presence, for example, of theIGA Yves CALECAArmaments Adviser to the EU and NATO, of Fabio LIBERTIPolicy Manager, Defence Industry and Market Policy Unit, DG DEFIS or of Frédéric MAUROThe event will be an opportunity to debate, analyse and exchange views on the European Union's public defence policies.
