Feedback on the relationship between the head of post and his defence attaché during the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh
On Wednesday 26 January 2022, the Europe and International Affairs Department of the IHEDN organised a feedback session on the essential link between the Ambassador and his defence attaché, for the benefit of first-time Ambassadors trained by the Institut diplomatique et consulaire (IDC).
Ambassador Jonathan Lacôte, Deputy Director General for Political and Security Affairs at the MEAE and Ambassador to Armenia between 2017 and 2021, spoke about his relationship with Lieutenant-Colonel Claire Bertaux, a former deputy defence attaché in Tbilisi who was assigned as military reinforcement in Yerevan during the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
This dynamic and constructive exchange illustrated the importance of the links between the head of post and his military adviser, in peacetime as well as in wartime, and raised the awareness of our diplomats of defence and security policies.
