The Challenges of Securing Maritime Areas for the European Union: a focus on the Indo-Pacific Region

Organised by the IHEDN's Europe and International Affairs Department as part of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), the course entitled "The Challenges of Securing Maritime Areas for the European Union: a focus on the Indo-Pacific Region" is being held in Brussels from 3 to 5 April. This module will bring together some twenty participants from institutions, organisations and agencies of the European Union and its Member States, and will focus on 6 sub-themes.

The main aim of this course will be to discuss the challenges facing the EU and its member states in the maritime sector, and more specifically the European Union's strategy and tools in the Indo-Pacific region. The aim is to forge a shared strategic vision of regional challenges in order to help build effective responses, notably through partnerships.

The course was opened on Monday 3 April by Ambassador Marc Abensour, who is in charge of the Indo-Pacific region at the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. The course will conclude with a presentation by Dr Eva Pejsova, Director Japan of the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy at the Brussels School of Governance.
