A look back at the 2026 IHEDN Science Awards ceremony
On 9 June, our Institute held its scientific awards ceremony. Four researchers were honoured for the quality, originality and strategic significance of their PhD or Master’s thesis work. The prizes were presented by the Director of IHEDN at a ceremony during which each winner gave a speech reflecting on their work, motivations and future prospects, illustrating the richness and importance of the dialogue between the academic and strategic worlds.
The Senior Strategic Course 2025-2026 concludes in Rome: three modules for thinking about tomorrow's European security
As it does every year, the IHEDN took part in the organisation of the new edition of the Senior Strategic Course (SSC) of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), a high-level programme designed to strengthen European strategic culture and promote dialogue between civilian and military leaders of the Member States of the European Union.

From 18 to 23 May 2026, the auditors of the Digital Sovereignty and Cybersecurity major of the 5ᵉ national session of the IHEDN led a study mission to Sweden, a country that in just a few years has become a key player in resilience, total defence and cybersecurity issues in Europe.
IHEDN auditors at the heart of Dutch strategic issues
Auditors in the Armaments and Defence Economics (AED) major at the 5e session of the IHEDN completed a fact-finding mission to the Netherlands, a major partner in European defence and a key player in industrial and technological cooperation on the continent.
Saint-Brieuc hosts the 250e IHEDN regional session in Brittany
La 250e he IHEDN regional session opened in the Côtes-d'Armor region, focusing on the major strategic challenges of national defence and security. Between high-level conferences, immersions in the heart of the local economic fabric and unique memorial sequences in partnership with the Ordre de la Libération, the fifty-two auditors had a concrete grasp of the challenges of territorial resilience before continuing their training cycle in Brest.
13e edition of the cycle for civilian executives of the Ministry of the Armed Forces
Over the course of a week, the 13ᵉ cycle des cadres civils du ministère des Armées, organised by the IHEDN at the École militaire, brought together around sixty auditors to discuss major defence, security and international cooperation issues. Through lectures, visits and committee work, participants deepened their understanding of contemporary strategic challenges and strengthened their shared defence culture.
Reinforcing the spirit of defence in higher education in the Paris region
The Institut des Hautes Études de Défense Nationale, the Île-de-France Academic Region and the Paris Defence and Security Zone have signed an ambitious partnership agreement to develop the spirit and culture of defence among students in the Île-de-France region. A joint commitment to forge lasting links between academia, the armed forces and young people.
A new partnership to promote equal opportunities and civic engagement
The Institut des Hautes Études de Défense Nationale and the Un Avenir Ensemble foundation have signed a partnership agreement designed to encourage the diversification of audiences and strengthen the civic commitment of young people. This cooperation is based on shared values: equal opportunities, national cohesion and a spirit of defence.
